Schema Markup Services for Clear Entity SEO
Search engines and AI tools can only describe your organisation as clearly as the information they find. Net Branding Limited provides schema markup services and entity SEO for New Zealand and international organisations that want their name, services, people and locations understood accurately. We have worked in digital marketing since 2008, and this page explains what structured data can do, what it cannot do, and how we approach it. It sits within our wider AI search services.
Want to know how Google and AI tools currently see your organisation? Our free audit checks your structured data, your business details across the web and how AI assistants describe you today.
Why search engines and AI tools misread good businesses
Many New Zealand organisations do excellent work and are still described poorly online. Google shows an old suburb. An AI assistant lists a service you stopped offering years ago. A directory spells your name three different ways. None of this means your business is weak. It usually means the facts about your business are scattered, inconsistent or written only for human readers.
Search engines and AI systems build their understanding from signals across your website and the wider web. When those signals disagree, the systems hedge. They may favour a competitor whose details are clearer, or leave your organisation out of an answer altogether.
The causes we find most often are:
- Business names, addresses and phone numbers that differ between your website, your Google Business Profile and directories.
- Service pages that never state plainly what the service is, who it is for and where it is offered.
- Structured data added once by a plugin and never checked again.
- No clear connection between your organisation, its people and the topics you want to be known for.
Each of these problems can be found, explained and fixed.
What schema markup and entity SEO actually do
An entity is anything that can be clearly identified: an organisation, a person, a place, a service or a product. Entity SEO is the work of making sure search systems recognise your organisation as one distinct thing and connect it to the right people, places and topics.
Schema markup is one of the main tools for that work. It is code, based on the shared vocabulary published at schema.org, that sits in your page and labels facts in a format machines read directly. It can state that a page describes a Service, that the Service is provided by your Organisation, that the Organisation is located at a particular address, and that a named person wrote a particular article.
Visitors never see the code. What they see is the result: search listings that describe you accurately, a Google Business Profile that agrees with your website, and AI answers with fewer reasons to guess.
Structured data works best when it confirms what the page already says clearly. It labels good content. It cannot replace it, and Google’s own guidelines say markup must describe information that visitors can actually see on the page.
What our schema markup services include
Our schema markup services cover the whole job, from finding what is broken to keeping it accurate after launch. Each engagement is shaped to your site, your platform and your goals, and the work usually includes the following.
- A structured data audit of your current markup, including errors, warnings, duplicates and conflicts created by themes or plugins.
- An entity map that defines your organisation, key people, locations, services and the topics you want to be known for.
- Organization (the schema.org spelling) or LocalBusiness markup with a consistent name, address, phone number and logo, plus links to official profiles through the sameAs property.
- Service, Person, Article, Product, BreadcrumbList and other types, used only where they genuinely match the page content.
- Connected markup that links your pages into one coherent graph using stable identifiers, rather than isolated snippets that contradict each other.
- Validation in Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator before anything goes live.
- Monitoring in Google Search Console so problems introduced by later site changes are caught early.
We work on WordPress, Shopify and custom builds. Where markup needs developer time on your platform, we explain what is involved and why before any work starts.
Structured data and AI search: what it can and cannot do
There is a lot of noise about schema and AI. Some providers describe structured data as the secret to being cited by ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews. We prefer to work from what the search engines have actually published.
Google Search Central states that structured data is not required for its generative AI features and that no special schema markup is needed to appear in them. It also recommends continuing to use structured data as part of a sound SEO strategy because it supports eligibility for rich results. Since August 2023, Google has shown FAQ rich results regularly only for well known government and health websites, so FAQ markup alone will not change how most business listings look.
So why invest? Clear, consistent entity information reduces ambiguity everywhere your organisation is described. It supports the knowledge systems search engines maintain, strengthens local signals and gives AI tools fewer reasons to guess. It is one important layer of AI search readiness, alongside useful content, technical health and a genuine reputation. For a more technical view, read our article on schema architecture for generative engine retrieval.

How we build and test your structured data
Schema problems often start after launch. A theme update adds duplicate markup. A new page template drops a required property. A rebrand changes your logo but not the code that describes it. That is why we treat structured data as ongoing technical work rather than a one off task.
| Stage | What happens | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Discover | We crawl your site, review existing markup and compare your business details across the web. | A plain English summary of issues and priorities. |
| Model | We define your entities and how they relate to each other. | An entity map you can check for accuracy. |
| Build | We write the markup or configure your platform to output it. | Markup ready for review, on a staging site where possible. |
| Validate | We test every page template in Google’s testing tools. | A clean validation record. |
| Monitor | We watch Search Console reports and recheck after site changes. | Notes on anything that needs attention. |
Good markup also depends on pages that Google can crawl and index properly. Our technical SEO service covers the crawl, indexing and site health issues that sit underneath structured data, and our process page explains how we work with you from the first conversation.
Who benefits most from structured data
Almost any website can benefit from accurate structured data, but some organisations feel the difference more than others.
- Local service businesses that rely on Google Maps and the local map pack, where consistent business details support local SEO.
- Professional services firms, such as lawyers and accountants, where named experts and their credentials matter to trust.
- Ecommerce stores, where product, price and availability details need to be precise and current.
- Organisations with several locations or brands that search systems tend to confuse with each other.
- Businesses that have changed name, merged or moved and still see old details appearing online.
- Advisers and publishers who want their articles clearly connected to the people who wrote them.
If your content itself needs work before it can be cited, our AI content optimisation service focuses on that layer, and our answer engine optimisation work shapes pages around the questions people ask. If you are planning a new website, it is far easier to build structured data in from the start. Our AI ready websites are planned with clean templates and entity markup from day one.
Frequently asked questions
What are schema markup services?
Schema markup services plan, write, test and maintain the structured data on your website. The goal is to describe your organisation, services, people and content in a format search engines and AI systems can read directly and without ambiguity.
What is entity SEO?
Entity SEO makes sure search systems recognise your organisation as one distinct entity and connect it to the right people, places and topics. Structured data, consistent business details and clear content all contribute.
Is schema markup a ranking factor?
Structured data helps Google understand a page and can make it eligible for rich results. It is not a shortcut to higher rankings, and we do not present it as one.
Will structured data get my business cited in AI answers?
No one can promise that. Google says structured data is not required for its generative AI features. Accurate markup reduces ambiguity about your organisation, which is useful, but citations also depend on content quality, technical health and reputation.
What format do you use?
We use JSON linked data, the format Google recommends because it sits separately from the visible text and is easier to maintain.
Can incorrect schema cause problems?
Yes. Markup that does not match the visible page, or that breaks Google’s structured data guidelines, can make pages ineligible for rich results. Duplicate or conflicting markup also sends mixed signals. Our audit finds these issues.
Do you provide structured data services across New Zealand?
Yes. We work with organisations throughout New Zealand from our Auckland office, mostly by video call and shared documents, as well as with international clients.
How much do schema markup services cost?
Cost depends on the size of your site, your platform and the number of page templates involved. We provide a written scope and quote before any work begins, so you know exactly what is included.
