Nationwide SEO NZ, City by City
Net Branding Limited helps organisations throughout New Zealand be found in Google, Google Maps and AI generated answers. Our office is in Remuera, Auckland, and we have worked in digital marketing since 2008. Most of our clients outside Auckland work with us remotely, by video call, phone and email, and that works well because search visibility depends on what happens on your website and across the web, not on where your agency sits. This page lists every city and region we have a dedicated page for, and explains plainly how we work with you wherever you are.
Wherever your business is based, the first step is the same. Our free audit shows how you appear in local search, the map results and AI answers in the places you serve.
Why local search works differently in every New Zealand town
A plumber in Hamilton, an accountant in Nelson and a tourism operator in Queenstown all need to be found online, but they compete in very different search environments. In a large city, dozens of businesses compete for the same few places in the Google map pack. In a smaller town, the competition may be thin, but customers often search using the name of the nearest larger centre, or a district name rather than the town itself.
Google says local results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. That means the right approach depends on where your customers are, what they type and who else appears for those searches. A template that works in Auckland can miss the mark in Ashburton.
The differences we plan for include:
- How customers name the area, such as a city, a suburb, a district or a region.
- Whether your business has a shopfront, serves customers at their location, or both.
- How many competitors already hold strong Google Business Profiles nearby.
- Seasonal patterns, such as tourism in the Southern Lakes or harvest periods in rural districts.
Each location page explains what those factors look like in that place.
How Net Branding serves clients outside Auckland
We do not have offices outside Auckland, and we do not pretend to. Instead, we have built a simple way of working that suits organisations anywhere in New Zealand.
- Video calls. Strategy sessions, reviews and training happen over video, so you can see the same screens we see and ask questions as we go.
- Phone and email. You can reach Cathy directly on 09 523 0478 or at cathy@seocompanynz.com.
- Shared documents and reports. Plans, page drafts and results are shared in documents you can read and comment on in your own time.
- Visits where practical. When an in person meeting would genuinely help, such as a workshop with a larger team, we discuss whether a visit makes sense and plan it with you.
What does not change with distance is the work itself: technical checks, local search improvements, content, structured data and measurement through Google Search Console and GA4. Our process page explains each stage, and our local SEO service covers Google Business Profile and map visibility in detail.

If your town is not listed, we can still help. Many of our location pages cover the surrounding district, and the same approach works for any New Zealand community.
Not sure whether your business needs local, regional or national visibility? Talk to Cathy about where your customers actually are, and we will suggest the simplest structure that fits.
Choosing local, regional or national SEO
Not every business needs a page for every town. Creating near identical pages for dozens of places can do more harm than good, and Google’s spam policies warn against pages made mainly to rank for location variations without offering anything useful. The right structure depends on how you operate.
| Your situation | Usually the right focus |
|---|---|
| One shopfront or office serving nearby customers | Local SEO for your town and suburbs, with a strong Google Business Profile. |
| A service business travelling to customers across a district | A main service area page plus a small number of genuinely useful pages for key towns. |
| Several branches | A page for each real location, each with its own details and local content. |
| Selling products or services nationwide | National SEO focused on services, categories and content, with location pages only where they add value. |
| Reaching customers in Australia, the United Kingdom or the United States | International SEO planned for each market. |
Our SEO services cover each of these approaches, and our small business SEO service suits owner operated businesses in smaller centres.
International clients
Alongside New Zealand clients, we work with organisations in other countries and New Zealand businesses that want to reach overseas customers. Search behaviour, spelling, competition and customer expectations differ between markets, so international work starts with research into the specific country you want to reach. We currently have pages for Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
International projects are run in the same way as our work outside Auckland: video calls arranged across time zones, shared documents and regular written updates. Before recommending any international work, we check whether demand in the new market justifies the effort, how your website should be structured for more than one country, and whether your current content needs local adaptation rather than simple duplication. New Zealand and Australian English, for example, are close but not identical in the terms customers search for.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have offices in other cities?
No. Our only office is at 165 Orakei Road, Remuera, Auckland. We work with clients across New Zealand remotely, and arrange visits where they are practical.
Can you do local SEO for a town you are not based in?
Yes. Local SEO depends on your Google Business Profile, your website, your business details across the web and your reputation. None of those require us to be in the same town, although we take time to understand the local area and how your customers search.
How do you learn about my local market?
We research local search terms, nearby competitors and the map results for your area, and we ask you about your customers, service area and seasonal patterns. You know your community; we bring the search knowledge.
Should I have a separate page for every town I serve?
Usually not. A few genuinely useful pages for your main areas tend to work better than many thin ones. We will recommend a structure based on how you actually operate.
Do you work with businesses in rural areas?
Yes. Rural and small town businesses often have fewer competitors online, but customers may search by district or the nearest larger town. We plan for that.
Can you help with AI search as well as Google?
Yes. Our AI search services help AI tools describe your organisation and its service area accurately.
A nationwide approach built on honest, practical work
Net Branding Limited has worked in digital marketing since 2008. We work with organisations across New Zealand and internationally, and we tailor the work to each place rather than copying the same page from town to town. We do not guarantee rankings, traffic or AI citations. We focus on best practice and steady, sustainable growth, and we explain costs and scope clearly before any work begins. You can also explore our work by sector on the industries page.
